Hey all you nine-to-fivers, driving your SUV’s to work everyday--get ready to use Four Wheel Drive Low. Pack a cooler, gather up the girlfriend/wife/kids, and show them how cool you really are!
We’re having an Alpha Sig Off-Road Event on Sunday August 8th at Wharton State Forest in the Pine Barrens in Southern NJ. They have lots of LEGAL off-roading trails. You can expect your truck to emerge dirty, but undamaged, so you’ll have no problems getting to work on Monday.
The terrain consists primarily of sandy trails which stretch for miles. The map shows a couple of rivers that we can stop at, and an old mining town that should satisfy your sight-seeing needs. It’ll be very low-impact driving, and we’re going to have a few experienced off-roaders acting as guides for anybody who’s new to the sport.
You need to have a four wheel drive truck/SUV (Subaru vehicles will probably not be suitable, but you’re welcome to try!). Towhooks are recommended, and if you have any miscellaneous off-road equipment, such as tow straps, etc., feel free to bring them. However, the guides and I will be more than adequately equipped, so it’s not necessary for you to have any equipment at all!
If you are interested in attending but do not have a suitable vehicle, there will be a limited number of “passenger” slots available. If you want to grab one of these passenger slots, let me know ASAP.
We’ll meet at 11:00 AM at the Texaco station on Rt. 206, just outside of the state forest. There, you can fill up your tank as well as buy food, drinks, and ice to put in your coolers. To get there:
NJ Turnpike to exit 7A
take Rt. 206 South
go about 15 miles and pass Rt. 70
go about 5 more miles and the Texaco will be on your right.
or take 287 South to Rt. 1 South to Rt. 130 South to Rt. 206 South pass the entrance to the turnpike go about 15 miles and pass Rt. 70 go about 5 more miles and the Texaco will be on your right.
the phone number for the Texaco station is (609) 268-0303
If you have any questions, or to sign up, email me at rob-o@rocketmail.com or call me at 973-875-5628. My cellular phone number is 973-610-6881, and I’ll have it with me the day of the trip. If you’re signed up, we won’t leave the Texaco Station without you. If you’re not signed up, you’d better get there on time! Hope to see you all there.
