The Short Version
Sig Series Softball was cool. We had alot of people there. I ate, we lost the end...........
The Long Version
Well the annual Sig Series Softball game has come and gone and once again a great time was had by everyone. To begin the day the annual picnic was held. It was a historic moment as new and old brothers met each other for the first time while others rekindled old friendships. I mean nobody really had any choice since we really didn't start eating until 1:30, late as always. Once the BBQ was ready though the food was great and big props go out to Bill Severino who once again did a great job cooking all the food. And let me tell you everyone was actually happy that there was food for everyone this year intead of the great lettuce - tomato sandwiches most of us ate last year. Well soon everyone was done eating and it was on to the main event-The Sig Series Softball game.
The game began in normal fashion as the U-Grads began showing off their mad crazy softball skills. Under the big bat of Jeff Brill the Alumni almost immediately found themselves down 4-0 at the end of the first inning. It was more of the same the next few innings with powerful hits by Brill and Brian Jones because by the end of the 3rd the score was 11-1 in favor of the Undergrads. Then something happened. Before the Alumni got up in the 4th the U-Grads huddled up and decided that this game was far too easy and decided that it would be much more even if they couldn't throw or catch the softball. Over the next 4 innings the U-Grads had about 12 errors in the field to allow the Alumni to get their way back into the game. Under the awsome hitting of Glen Trimboli, Geo Morales, Bob Zotti, and the man known as Scoop the score was 15-10 going into the 7th inning. The Alumni scored 5 runs and were threatening to go ahead in the last inning. So I made my way over to the mound, talked with our pitcher Jim Zunino, and called in our big gun, the secret weapon of the U-Grads, the man from parts unknown - the Turtle. Needless to say Turtle pitched out of the jam and with the U-Grads not scoring in the bottom of the 7th it was off to extra innings. In the 8th inning the Alumni took the lead for good-they scored 4 runs off our ace reliever and the U-Grads went a quiet 123 against pitcher Bryan Chua in the bottom of the 8th. We may have lost 19-15 but in the score of earned runs we won 15-12. Just so everyone knows we really did let the Alumni win. Seeing that football is an easy win as is basketball we figured that we would give the Alumni team a false sense of hope that they could win the Sig Series. We don't want to shut them out, that just wouldn't be brotherly. So enjoy your victory and the Sig Series lead because football is just a few days away.
