Yes, it is May already, and after May comes June. We all know what June is, the Annual Convention/Meeting of the Members. Having everyone there this year will be more important than ever as both our country and our fraternity has been through a great deal since the last time we all saw each other. I am talking, of course, about the tragic events of September 11. Now seems to be a really good time to get back to what is most important in our lives, our homes, our families. I think of all of you as part of my family, and I hope you feel the same. At a minimum, please take a few hours to attend the meeting of the members, or, at a maximum stay for the entire weekend!
Once again, the convention will be held at Point Pleasant beach during the first weekend in June. The pinnacle of the convention is always the Meeting of the Members, and this year promises to be no different. The meeting will be held at the VFW Post hall on June 2nd, starting at 10:00 am sharp. Brothers who show up early are likely to find several Alpha Sigs meeting for breakfast at the little café near the VFW, and coffee and donuts will be provided at the VFW hall starting at 9:30am.Each year, it seems as though brothers complain that the meeting gets bogged down with discussion of what happened in the previous year, and also that not enough time is spent discussing the future. Well, we hope to change all that this year. On a suggestion from Brother Marty Lyons that we run this meeting more like other corporations, we intend to do just that this year. Contained in this mailing is a report from each member of the Board of Directors containing information as to what has been done during the past 12 months. Your job is to read the report, and come prepared with questions. The hope is that this will expedite the meeting to the point where we can spend most of the time discussing goals for the upcoming year, and immediate future plans.
Speaking of future plans... in case you haven't heard, the latest and greatest plan for the upcoming year is to purchase the Fraternity house (located at 267 Kind Boulevard) BEFORE 2003. Intrigued? Well, come to the meeting to find out the details, and how this affects your fraternity for the future.
Lest you think the convention is all business; check out the itinerary contained with this mailer. As you can see, there is a plan to meet at the boardwalk on the Friday night prior to the meeting. Jenkinson's boardwalk has rides and games for the kids, and Jersey's famous Martel's Tiki bar for some late night drinks with the adults. After the meeting there will be a picnic/barbecue, then, we'll take a poll to see what people want to do (Volleyball, Mini-golf or batting cages). Then, at 8pm on Saturday, we'll meet at the Offshore Restaurant for dinner. There will be plenty to do for families, so feel free to bring girlfriends, wives and children down for the weekend. Hotel accommodations can be made, and if you are interested in staying for the weekend, please contact me at the number below for more details.
Will you volunteer your time to further advance the fraternity that has given us all so much? Will you be the one who wants to help the younger brothers get the most out of their fraternity experience? Please make every effort to attend. If you are unable to attend, please send back your proxy ballot, also contained in this mailer. Your vote does count and it does make a difference.
Fraternally yours,
