The alumni association just recently completed a service event. The alumni, along with the undergrads, participated in the AIDS Walk NJ 1997, to help benefit the Hyacinth Foundation. The walk was held in New Brunswick on October 19. We joined over a thousand people who came out to show their support for AIDS research.
The event consisted of a 10K (around 6 miles for those non-metric thinkers) walk through the streets of New Brunswick, beginning on the Douglas Campus, and proceeding through town and the College Avenue campus (right past the Beta Theta chapter at Rutgers) and back. The alumni were represented by Glenn Arbesfeld, and the undergrads showed a large support team of seven brothers and ten pledges.
Overall the event was hoping to raise around $200,000 and Alpha Sigma Phi can be held responsible for at least $300 of that amount. Hey, every little bit helps and just getting our name out there in support of charities is just step one in the right direction for the future of ongoing service events. Many thanks go out to Nick DeRobertis who helped to get this service event off the ground. There may not have been that many alumni there for support, but next time, go out and lend a helping hand to the community. It will help you Better the Man.
