ABOUT ALPHA SIG

to provide values-driven brotherhood experiences through life.

OUR VALUES +
PHILANTHROPIC BENEFICIARIES

Five values shape the man each brother strives to become. The Fraternity partners with a national nonprofit aligned with each one — giving every value an embodiment in the world.

 SILENCE

He has the strength to embrace silence and the will to truly listen — building an interior life rather than competing in action or rhetoric. He is introspective and self-reliant.

Our partner: RAINN — the nation's largest anti-sexual violence organization. Founded in 1994, RAINN operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline and reaches millions each year with prevention information.

 CHARITY

He is charitable in the broadest sense — patient, kind, forgiving of others' flaws, sacrificing for those in need without seeking recognition. He is humble, reverent, and generous.

Our partner: Shatterproof — founded in 2013 by Gary Mendell to transform addiction treatment in America. Shatterproof drives structural change so every American with a substance use disorder can find science-based treatment and lasting recovery.

 PURITY

He strives for purity of mind, body, and soul. He does not shrink from adversity or lofty goals — no self-pity, no rationalization, no apology. He is moral and a gentleman in the finest sense.

Our partner: Hazing Prevention Network — founded in 2007 by Tracy Maxwell to shift the national conversation from punishing hazing to preventing it through education, advocacy, and community engagement.

 HONOR

He lives a life of personal integrity — keeping promises to others and to himself, enduring scorn rather than bending to peer pressure or fashion. He is ethical, honest, and trustworthy.

Our partner: Active Minds — founded in 2001 by Alison Malmon after her brother's suicide. Active Minds works with students and young adults ages 14–25 to change how mental health is talked about, cared for, and valued.

 PATRIOTISM

He loves his country and stays engaged in its affairs — devoted to personal freedom, justice, and civic responsibility embedded in the U.S. Constitution. He is loyal, proud, and humble.

Our partner: Homes For Our Troops — founded in 2004, building and donating specially adapted custom homes to severely injured post-9/11 Veterans nationwide. Nearly 90 cents of every dollar spent goes directly to veteran program services.

DIVERSITY & INCLUSION

WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT MAKES US STRONGER

Our Anti-Discrimination Policy reads:

Alpha Sigma Phi’s Constitution stipulates that no chapter shall permit discrimination in membership selection, initiation, chapter operations, or other activities of the Fraternity based on any individual’s race, color, creed, religion, disability, or sexual orientation.

Alpha Sigma Phi’s core values, as expressed through our ceremonies, constitution and policies, each express the concept of inclusiveness and respect for all persons.

Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity is an organization based on mutual respect, trust, and honesty where an environment of acceptance and brotherly love exists within the walls of our Fraternity.

The value of such inclusiveness has never been greater given the rich diversity of our campuses and communities. Where inclusiveness is not about diversity for the sake of political correctness, but where inclusiveness is a values-based choice, a decision made because it is the right decision to make based on who we say we are as a brotherhood of men.

Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity, both at the local and international level, is actively working to promote diversity in our membership and will oppose all acts of harassment and discrimination.

It is the continuing position of our Fraternity that membership privileges are open to any qualified man of character without consideration of ethnicity, race, religion, sexual orientation, physical ability, international origin, age, family status, or cultural background.
