"I was roster number one and one of the founding fathers of the Delta Tau chapter. The mission Alpha Sigma Phi put forward was one I could genuinely get behind. The friendships and connections we built from the ground up have lasted far beyond my college days."

FRATERNITY PAYS OFF

ACCEPTANCE
THROUGH
BROTHERHOOD
Colby Kreide, Maine '18, almost didn't see his freshman year through.
Diagnosed with Tourette's, depression, and anxiety in high school, he arrived at the University of Maine living alone in a single dorm, without many friends, and seriously considering dropping out.
He decided to try rushing a fraternity. It didn't go well.
"Because of my Tourette's, I twitched a lot. They'd be like 'oh, you twitch, we'll call you Twitchy.' I really didn't like that."
Then he saw a post from Scott Sleeper, Maine '16, about a chapter where you could start as a Founding Father. He went to an event at The Roost — nervous, visibly twitching — and waited for the reaction he'd come to expect.
"None of the guys said anything about it. They looked me in the eye. They just had a conversation. That's when I knew I really wanted to join Alpha Sig."
Two weeks after initiation, he was offered the VP of Service & Philanthropy position. "I was a new brother, and they were taking a chance on me." He held that role for two years, became VP of Finance, and eventually served as Executive Vice President of his Interfraternity Council.
He's now headed to graduate school.
"I couldn't have gotten here without the help of my chapter."
